2018 Fall Softball – Program Overview
New Canaan Softball is offering girls entering 1st through 9th grade, the opportunity to play "Fall Ball” in our recreation league. Fall Ball is a fantastic way to introduce new players to the sport or continue to developing the skills of players who participated in the spring program.
Older divisions will practice during the week and play teams from other towns in our area, primarily on weekends. Our first grade players will participate in a weekly clinic that introduces the basic softball skills and knowledge through stations and mini skill challenges, as well as scrimmages.
New Canaan Softball divisions are aligned to enhance the skills and aptitude of our players at all ages and development levels. Our youngest divisions are grade-based, providing for positive social interactions with classmates and ease of scheduling with other sports. By age 8, our divisions are age and ability based. Grouping players of similar ability provides a developmental environment that allows all our players the opportunity to expand their skills. For Fall Ball, players age 8-14 are placed in divisions based on coach evaluations from previous season participation.
Calendar:
Registration: Now - August 10th
Season Begins: Week of September 4th (post Labor Day) for grades 2-9; Grade 1 beings 9/15-10/20
Season Ends: Last week of October (Season will be extended for Grade 1 if there are 2 or more rainouts).
Schedule
Final schedules will not be available until early September. We encourage children to participate in multiple sports and activities and will do our best to schedule practices opposite typical fall sports including soccer and field hockey. Within your registration, please note any additional activity your daughter will be participating in this Fall.
- Girls in grade 1 will participate in a Saturday clinic program that runs for six weeks, 9/15 through 10/20. If there are two or more rainouts, we will extend the season through 10/27.
- Girls ages 8-14 should expect to have 2-3 events (practices & games) throughout the week, playing games in New Canaan and other local towns (Darien, Rowayton, Westport, Fairfield, Wilton, etc).
League Registration Fees*:
1st Grade Clinic: $85
2nd-9th Grades: $195
Waitlist:
New Canaan Softball anticipates fielding one team at each division level for softball with a roster size limit of 11-13 depending on the division. Those who register after the roster has been filled will be placed on a waitlist.
Volunteer Opportunities:
We are always looking for volunteers to become head coaches, assistant coaches, bench parents, or to help the Board with our league events. If you would like to volunteer please indicate so within your registration.
